It works directly with any Lightcloud Blue-enabled fixture, and just as importantly, it also works with any 0-10V dimmable fixture at all, RAB or not, when paired with a Lightcloud Blue line-voltage controller — turning fixtures that never had smart control into ones that respond to occupancy and daylight automatically. How does it install?
The sensor mounts to a standard junction box, at heights up to 39 ft. Power is drawn from the same junction box wiring, so there's no separate low-voltage cable to run. In layouts where rafters, girders, or other structural features would block the sensor's sightline if mounted flush, the optional ARM/LCB bracket lets you angle or offset the sensor instead.
Why not just use a simple plug-in occupancy or daylight sensor?
A basic plug-in sensor works fine for a single fixture, but it has to be manually adjusted at the sensor itself every time sensitivity, timeout, or dim levels need to change, a real inconvenience at elevated mounting heights. This sensor is adjusted entirely from your phone, and one sensor can control up to 199 lights across an area instead of just the one it's mounted next to.
How does it connect to my lights?
There are two ways to use this sensor. If your fixtures are already Lightcloud Blue-enabled, it connects directly over Bluetooth Mesh, no gateway or hub required. If your fixtures aren't Lightcloud Blue-enabled, RAB or not, pair this sensor with a Lightcloud Blue line-voltage controller installed at the fixture, and the two communicate wirelessly, bringing the same occupancy sensing and daylight harvesting to a fixture that otherwise has no smart features at all.
Is this sensor DLC listed or rebate-eligible?
The sensor itself is not DLC listed. However, when paired with a DLC-qualified Lightcloud Blue controller, the overall lighting control system may still be eligible for utility rebates — check with your utility provider or our rebate assistance team to confirm what's available for your project.
What's the wireless range, and what if my building has thick walls?
Indoors, expect up to 60 ft of range through standard building materials, or up to 200 ft in a clear line of sight. Outdoors, range is up to 60 ft in a clear line of sight, or up to 18 ft around corners. Brick, concrete, and steel construction can reduce range further — additional Lightcloud Blue devices can help bridge the mesh network around these obstructions.
Can it turn lights off completely, or does it keep them dimmed?
Both options are available. When the space is vacant, you can set the sensor to turn lights fully off or to hold at a low dim level, whichever fits the application.
Do I have to convert my whole facility at once?
No. You can start with a single room or zone, install a sensor and controller there, and see the results before expanding further. Every device joins the same Bluetooth Mesh network, so adding more sensors and controllers later doesn't require any new infrastructure, just more devices on the same system.
PIR vs. microwave: which should I choose?
PIR sensors like this one often consume less energy than microwave alternatives and are best for open spaces with a clear line of sight. They can be less reliable near heat-generating equipment and cannot detect through obstructions. Microwave sensors often consume more energy but sees past racking, shelving, and stacked inventory. They are less prone to false triggers around industrial heat sources and often have a longer range. For an open space under 39 ft without obstructions or industrial heat sources, stick with this sensor. Otherwise, see MVSW50/LCB.
